PAPER 2 TREE
SCIENCE + COMMUNITIES + ENVIRONMENT
Paper2tree is a platform that aims at engaging local and underrepresented communities as a whole, connecting cities, schools and park districts with the research carried out at university level. The core idea is to allow researchers and faculties to associate a publication to a tree to be planted in a local park district that will grow together with the paper’ impact. A tree becomes then a physical instantiation of a DOI (Digital Object Identifier), enabling a host of educational opportunities: from PIs partnering with local schools to showcase their work before/during a planting event, to ‘science treasure hunts’.
The official kickoff took place on November 16, 2017 with the planting of two inaugural trees, followed by outreach activities impacting over hundred students.
